When is the
last time your kids really had fun at Church and learned something
too?
At the Fairfax Baptist Temple
AWANA Program, we intend that kids do just
that - have a great time, make new friends in an adult-supervised
environment while getting solid training in foundational Bible truths.
Think fun and learning are not possible at the same time; think again. We
do it every week and we enjoy doing it. Here is a quick overview of what
happens during a typical AWANA meeting (meeting is from 6:45pm - 8:30pm
each Wednesday starting in September and finishing in May):
- Everyone
meets for a brief opening ceremony with flags and
pledge of allegiance
- Young
folks break up into age groups with their adult
Leaders and go through the following three segments
of time:
- Book
Time: work in small groups (4-5) with an adult
Leader as they do Bible verse memorization, sections
on Bible truths, crafts, etc. They receive awards
for their academic work here.
- Devotional: a short Bible lesson given to the
group by one of our many great Bible teachers.
- Game Time: this is where we just have fun in a
time supervised by our Game Director and Leaders.
Something non-competitive for the younger folks with
games tailored to the age level.
At four different times throughout the AWANA season
(Sept - May), we
have the "AWANA Store". This is where the young
people get to bring all the points they have
accumulated for their academic achievements in Book
Time and spend them at the AWANA Store. It's an
exciting time of smiles and laughter.
There are also theme nights throughout the calendar
year that cover
anything from "crazy hat night" to "crazy sock
night"...just for the fun of it.
Adults are always welcome to come visit and watch - and
even join in on game time if you like. So make it a
point to come by and visit a couple of times to see what
it's like. If you decide to stay and be part of the
AWANA Club, you will be pleased and amazed at how much
your young people will learn and grow in God's grace
along with the new friendships that will blossom. We
hope to see you there...it's up to you now.
